27th Annual Conference of the Scottish Association for the Study of America

call-for-papers

The 27th annual conference of the Scottish Association for the Study of America (SASA) will convene on March 7, 2026. The SASA committee invites proposals for papers exploring all aspects of and approaches to the history, cultures, societies and politics of the Americas. The conference will be hosted at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) in Inverness. We are particularly excited to be holding our conference in the Scottish Highlands, a landscape of legends and robust presence in global popular culture, and to be engaging internationally with Highland and Island communities of wisdom, learning and knowledge.

The SASA committee hereby invites proposals for papers exploring all aspects of and approaches to the history, cultures and politics of the Americas. SASA recognizes a broad definition of the Americas and includes any topic situated within North, South or Latin America, at any point in history. The intent of the conference is to reflect the range and vitality of Americanist scholarship in Scotland and beyond. As such, there is no particular theme to the conference. Participation is open to all scholars, but we particularly encourage proposals from masters and doctoral students, and early career researchers. Abstracts are welcome from all disciplines, including history, literature, politics, culture, international relations, transnational studies, religious studies, music, film studies and cognate fields. The conference aims to provide a friendly forum in which postgraduate students, early career researchers, and academic staff can share and discuss their research.

Please send proposals for individual papers of no longer than 10-15 minutes via email to ScotAmStudies@gmail.comAbstracts should not exceed 250 words. Please also provide a brief CV or a bio containing full contact information. Proposals are due by midnight on December 2025. We intend to notify proposers about the status of their paper proposal and further details about the conference by early January 2026.

Please email above with any questions relating to the conference and proposal submission.
