Glasgow Pandemic 1832
Dr Matthew Creasy and Dr Megan Coyer are developing a version of the popular boardgame, ‘Pandemic’, that tells the story of the 1832 cholera outbreak in Glasgow. In the game, players travel the health districts of Glasgow, treating patients, whilst trying to gather clues about the nature of the disease. ‘Events’ cards change gameplay and enable reflection on actual historical events, and through gameplay and an accompanying PowerPoint, the players hear the story of how Glasgow experienced the epidemic. They have successfully play-tested two different versions of the game at the Festival of Social Science 2023 and at Explorathon 2024.
