Yixuan's project examines our existing theories of pain and folk beliefs about pain and seeks to explain mysterious forms of pain that challenge our scientific and philosophical theorization.
Yixuan is a doctoral student at the Department of Philosophy working on a research project on pain experiences. This project aims to provide a new model of pain based on the Bayesian Predictive Processing Framework and seeks to explain mysterious pains that challenge our existing theories. With a master's dissertation on disembodiment and extended cognition, Yixuan's other research interests in the philosophy of mind include body awareness, mental disorders, and altered consciousness states. Before ending up in Philosophy, Yixuan worked in Linguistics from a cognitive scientific approach, with a special focus on the processing of metaphorical meanings and valence.
